Panela Redonda - 100% Cane Sugar Brown Sugar Piloncillo Loaf
Panela, also known for over 500 years in Mexico as Piloncillo is refined whole cane sugar derived from the boiling and evaporation of sugarcane juice. This smoky, caramelly, earthy sugar is produced in Columbia in its traditional shape. It has far more flavor than brown sugar, which is generally just white sugar with a small amount of molasses added back to it. Made from crushed sugar cane, the juice is collected, boiled and poured into molds, where it hardens into blocks.
